The Nucor Corparation is on the Move

The Nucor Corporation is the largest steel producer in the United States, along with being the largest recycler. Nucor affiliates maintain operations in 10 states including two steel processing facilities in Blytheville, Arkansas. The company is in the process of expanding its already well established role as a high volume producer of steel products.

Recent acquisition activity has Nucor working on deals where the company has acquired the Trico Steel Company and has signed an agreement to purchase the Birmingham Steel assets. The newly purchased Trico facility in Decatur, Alabama is currently undergoing an operational changeover to increase productivity and improve the quality of the steel products that are to be produced at that mill. The Birmingham Steel acquisition will involve the purchase of several assets. Among those many assets are two steel production facilities within the Lower Mississippi River Delta Region. One plant is located in Jackson, Mississippi and another mill is located in Memphis, Tennessee.

Nucor's philosophy on the production of steel products and its innovative cultural development has been a focus within the steel industry and industry in general for many years. The company manufactures steel entirely from relatively small mills using recycled steel scrap. More than half of all the steel produced in the United States today is produced via this method. Their work cultural has made the steel producer a model of efficiency in its production methods and of loyalty, first from the company to the associates, then the associates reciprocating. The company's culture instills values that include: lean corporate staffing, pay based heavily on performance throughout the organization, no executive perquisites, decentralized leadership, and facilities located in rural areas.

Nucor Corporation has proven to be a company that is innovative, proactive, and on the move, truly a business leader in both the Delta Region and America.
