N.E.W. Company in Jonesboro

June 26, 2008 - Call Center Adds 120 Jobs to Area

JONESBORO — A Virginia based customer service call center announced plans Wednesday to bring 120 N.E.W. jobs to Jonesboro.

N.E.W. Customer Service Companies Inc. will begin recruiting workers in July. The home-based jobs will provide technical troubleshooting assistance to DirecTV customers. DirecTV is the nation's leading satellite TV provider with more than 17 million customers, according to information given by the company.

"It's all troubleshooting," said N.E.W. operations planning manger Re becca Alston. "We troubleshoot with them and try andhelp them resolve it. If they are not able to resolve it then they will make arrangements for a technician to come to their home. It's all in-bound calls so there is no selling."

The jobs will pay $9 an hour and provide employees with flexible schedules and the convenience of not traveling to work, said Karen Rish, director of the work-at-home program.

"With gas what it is today we're all looking for ways to stay at home a lot more often and avoid that costly commute, " Rish said. "That is one of the things our employees value the absolute most." N.E.W. began the work-at-home program in 2006 and today has more than 650 representatives working at home in 26 states.

The company earlier this month announced plans to open a call center in Russellville with 250 N.E.W. jobs. N.E.W. is expected to bring close to 400 N.E.W. jobs to Arkansas over the next year.

N.E.W. will hold a job fair July 8 at 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. at the Jonesboro Regional Chamber of Commerce and again on July 9 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

A company-paid training program will begin Aug. 25 at the Arkansas State University Delta Center for Economic Development at Krueger Drive. Applicants must have a home computer that supports Microsoft Windows XP and Internet Explorere 6.0 as well as high speed DSL or cable modem Internet Service.
